Awaiting original catalog description: From Maple Valley Iris Garden catalog, 1947: BAGHDAD (Whiting 1946) M. L. 34 in. A deep, strong yellow, overlaid with a metallic finish of burnished brass. The flowers are very heavy in substance and of a pleasingly flaring form. Each bloom lasts several days in any kind of weather. The branching is low and wide, each stalk carrying 9 to 11 blooms. The plants are perfectly hardy, free flowering and generous of increase. Coming from a deep red and a bright yellow, it has wide potentialities in breeding. All of its seedlings seem to inherit its excellent branching and firm substance. It is the pollen parent of IVORY CHARM. $20.00.
"Bagdad (Whiting '46) is a Garden Glory done in yellow and metallic lustre. Its form and smoothness are very reminiscent of the smooth finish of Garden Glory. The standards are an unusual tone of waxy yellow and the falls so thickly overlaid with a brassy sheen they seem almost velvety. The substance is outstanding and no amount of bad weather seems to mar its perfect finish." [David R. Kinnish, O. S. B., (Kansas), “In Kansas, Missouri and Illinois,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 107, “Iris Ramblings” (October 1947): 40.]
