BALDWIN. Self B7M Sass, H. P. R.1926-I.1927. Lavender violet with bluish flush below beard and an almost solid hydrangea red reticulation on haft; 40 in. S. with tips adpressed; F. drooping to straight hanging; beard bluish, yellow tipt; styles over arching; spathes flushed. Excellent mass. [R. S. From Hill’s Iris & Peony Farm, ca 1932: BALDWIN (H. P. Sass) A Manganese violet of large size on 40-inch stems. Cooley's description in October Iris Bulletin: "Surely one of the finest things in Commerce-splendid form and huge size, lovely pleasing color that is neither lavender nor purple, nor pink, nor red. It is a medley of all these, very vigorous. $5.00.
 
From Sass catalog, 1937: BALDWIN (H. P. Sass, 1926)-0ne of the best of the dark blue purples. A huge Manganese violet self with an electric sheen in the falls on 40-inch well branched stems. 35c
