CHINESE CORAL (Fay '62). "A standard in apricot-orange, with the deepest most brilliant coral beard. A very healthy, well-branched, freeblooming variety that will consistently bloom every year. An important further addition it blooms late and greatly extends the season. It could use a few more ruffles; but all-in-all, a prominent advancement in the apricot-oranges." [Roger R. Nelson (Wayne, Nebraska), “An Extra Dimension” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 196, (January 1970): 8.
CHINESE CORAL (Fay '63) was seen in two well-established clumps blooming to perfection. Each had seven stalks with two to three open flowers. The heavy stalks carry up to four branches with nine or ten buds, making a long season of bloom. Flower is well formed, large, a bright pinkish orange, almost a complete self, with only a small blaze at the tip of the amazingly huge, brilliant red beard such as noted in no other iris. Foliage shows that blue-green color of the Fay lines, a factor bred in through a cross to I. pallida many years back. [Roberts, Earl (1964). Taped Commentary on Fay Garden, American Iris Society Bulletin 174</(July 1964), 48.]
