From AIS Bulletin #178, July 1965. Introducing DEBBY RAIRDON (Kuntz) 34" E-L. The closed wavy standards are subdued yellow with white on the reverse side. The round, wavy, horizontal falls are pearly white with yellow on the reverse side. Very heavy substance. (Parentage unknown. The pod parent was a good pink.) Net 25.00. Noyd's Iris Garden.
In the Luihn garden we observed an iris numbered 59-2, and "flipped." The standards are white-edged yellow, and the falls are similar, with the substance like wax. We later learned this iris is named DEBBY RAIRDON (Kuntz '65), and has been introduced by Luella Noyd. [Joseph Ghio, “The 1965 Iris Season in Review,” Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 179 (October 1965): 82.]
This year's winner, DEBBY RAIRDON, was completely acceptable here. With perhaps the most perfect form in irisdom, this pale yellow and white is outstanding in other ways too. Its heavy substance lets it take our gusty spring winds without a tear. Branching is not as elegant as in some other varieties, but is adequate considering the height of the stalks. Although this iris is of unknown parentage, it is apparently from pinks, since all its sibs are pink and several descendants from it, including Noyd's 'LUCKY NUMBER' and 'SANDBERRY', are also pink. A hybridizer who gets a clear pink with Debby's form has a winner. [Mullin, Ron (1971). Irises I Like, American Iris Society Bulletin 204(January 1972), 9.]
