Awaiting original catalog description
From Tell's Iris Gardens catalog, 1951: GOLD SOVEREIGN (Whiting '49). M. (Ola Kala x Rocket.) Simply stunning is this richest orange-yellow. Top blood for vivid colors in yellow, orange and possibly reds. H.M.'50. Net. $10.00.

"Gold Sovereign, a new Whiting orange was the nicest in its color class that I've ever seen. Rich, glowing, with no dirt on the falls and no haft markings, it seemed to be really different and good. It isn't large, but is so intensely colored that one couldn't ask it to have huge size in addition." [Mrs. Ed Conrad (Idaho), “Way Beyond the Hills of Idaho” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 121, (April 1951): 36.]
