From Fay catalog, 1957: Lipstick (1957) $20.00 No.53-54. 1/4 New Snow- 1/4 Snow Flurry-1/2 Pink. This nicely formed snow white flower with a tangerine beard was bred to a plan started in 1945 to produce a white Iris with a red beard. The first crosses were Snow Flurry X Pink Cameo, and New Snow X Cherie. During the next eight years much size and some vitality was lost because so few o fthe seedlings could be used--1 in 16 in the second generation. Lipstick breeds true when crossed with two of its sister seedlings. If you want to breed red bearded whites the use of Lipstick should save you many years of work. 32 inches tall; good branching; good substance. |
