Very smooth in its finish and coloring it makes a gorgeous border plant. Fertile both ways we feel it has a great breeding potential for those interested in blue-bearded irises. $15.00 |
| "For two years Mrs. Agnes Marriott's light blue with a blue beard has pleased fanciers visiting the Hamblen garden and now we are to introduce this lovely iris. The name MARIOTT was decided upon after conversation brought out the fact that Melba Hamblen was born in a Utah town bearing this name-a town, perhaps, named for one of the ancestors of Mr. Marriott. We thought it quite fitting to be named both for the family name and the town where Melba was born since she was responsible for its being introduced, really. Agnes Marriott told us the story of how she thought of this cross and felt something good should result; it was her first and only cross. This seedling pleased her and she asked Mrs. Hamblen to grow a rhizome and we are glad she did-otherwise another fine flower might never have been introduced. Undoubtedly there are hybridizers of iris and other flowers having success but "hiding their light under a bushel." Having had this initial success we hope Agnes Marriott will continue to hybridize."
