From Maple Valley Gardens catalog, Road Gardens. (1937). 1929: MIDWEST GEM (H. P. Sass 1937) M. L. 36 in. This perfectly luscious blend is a great favorite in our garden. Soft, creamy yellow, almost buff tones with a flush of pure light pink make it good enough to eat. Both standards and falls are wide and full with the most fascinating crimped edges. Our color plate of Midwest Gem is most satisfactory. We were delighted with the soft blending of colors, almost true to the flower itself, and it is a difficult thing, this trying to bring a flower to you on paper. In some lights seems to have a warmer yellow tone than the picture. but does an iris ever list look the same in different lights? But Midwest Gem is lovely any way you look at it. Texture and substance are unusually fine, each bloom lasting several days. The strong, hardy plants bloom freely. H. M. 1937. Per. R. 90, 1938. $10.00 The American Iris Society Iris Encyclopedia.
