From Carl Salbach catalog 1936: Missouri. A very fine rich blue having a smooth, enamel-like finish. Highly praised in the Mid-West, and without uestion, one of the best new blue iris. Raised by a breeder who hns made a specialty of blue iris. Mid-season to late. $4.50.
From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1937: "Clear, clean blue, of sensational size. There has never been sufficient stock to supply the demand for this iris, declared by some observers to be the last word in its color."
Missouri (Grinter) --disappointing. G. L. Pilkington, "Iris Notes", A.I.S. Bulletin 74 (July 1939): 31.
Missouri: (Grinter). The most wonderful blue on cloudy days but shows a violet sheen in the sun. Well deserving of its award. Belsley, Ray J., Varietal Comments. Bulletin of the American Iris Society 74 (July 1939), 18.
