■(TB) 'Pale Primrose'

1946, Whiting

'Pale Primrose' ( Mrs. C. Whiting, R. 1946) TB. Late bloom. Color Class-Y4L. 'Happy Days' x 'Midwest Gem'. Honorable Mention 1950.

PALE PRIMROSE (Whiting, 1946) Each $1.00. A late, cool primrose-yellow with a touch of wax-yellow at the haft. Of an attractive and useful color, the form of this iris is its real distinctive feature. It is oval, with standards closed and swirled at the top; the falls are long but so wide they nearly touch each other, the effect is of a huge yellow rosebud. Very late, high branched and tall—most effective in back of a planting. HM AIS, 1950. See page below: 38. [Cooley's Iris catalog 1952, p. 34].

"Pale Primrose (Whiting '46) is a very lovely tall late yellow of exceptional form and heavy substance. The petals are extremely wide and the color is a soft, cool pure primrose yellow. It is at its best long after everything else is gone or nearly so and the heat does not seem to bother it. I did not see this at Long's but have enjoyed it in my garden as W. 4057 and am glad to see it introduced." [David R. Kinnish, O. S. B., (Kansas), “In Kansas, Missouri and Illinois,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 107, “Iris Ramblings” (October 1947): 43.]
