1950, Kleinsorge
'Prospector' Rudolph Kleinsorge, R. 1950. TB. Seedling #242-A. 34". Early bloom. Color Class-Y/OY3. Yellow and yellow orange bitone. 'Prince Of Orange' X Seedling #K258. Honorable Mention 1951; Award of Merit 1953.
From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1950: "Deepest golden yellow . . . almost an orange . . . with the falls carrying a bold patch of clean ivory white. For combined depth of color and brilliance at the same time PROSPECTOR has no equal amongst the yellows. The amply large flowers are produced abundantly; they are well formed with widely flaring falls and closed standards. Height about 34-36 inches. Of the many first rate yellow Iris available these days there are none quite like this one."
PROSPECTOR. "From 'Prince Of Orange' comes this new pattern which for some reason reminds me of 'Mattie Gates', one of my all time favorites, although there is really not much similarity." [Mrs. M. D. Naylor (Utah), “Varietal Comment, Comments from Region 12” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 123, (October 1951): 74.]
