RED ROBE. (Nich. 1931) 36 inches. S. deep Petunia Violet, domed. F. intense, deep red violet. uniformly colored to the edge. S. and F. circular and very large. Yellow beard. Exceptionally lasting substance. Profuse bloomer. Low and well branched. An enormous bloom of perfect shape. The most brilliant colored Iris of which we have any information. Totally distinct from "Red Robe" listed in 1930; all stock of that was destroyed when the new one bloomed in 1930. Sold out for 1931 before issue of catalogue. [Iris and Peonies catalog 1931, J. C. RED ROBE. An enormous bloom of perfect shape and habit, considered by Col. Nicholls as the finest iris he has ever turned out. Standards deep petunia-violet, domed. Falls deep red-violet, uniformly colored to the edge. Yellow beard. The flower is of splendid rounded shape, a brilliant, glowing iris that lights up in the garden like a huge ruby.
