From Longfield Iris Farm catalog, 1938: Sandia (Wmsn. No. 1516, 1934). ((Hesperis X Dominion) X - ). A bright and clean deep pink blend of heavy texture. Very lovely in mass or as an exhibition Iris. S. arching cupped, obovate, Rosolane Purple flushed Pinard Yellow. F. straight hanging, wedge-shaped, Rosolane Purple. Haft: Pinard Yellow veined Kaiser Brown. Style branches: Pinard Yellow, midrib Rosolane Purple. Beard: Light Cadmium. Well-branched stems 39 inches tall with seven flowers to a stalk. Flowers: 5 inches high and 4 inches wide. Vigorous. $7.50. |
SANDIA is another iris which somehow was overlooked in the beginning so that it never got an award, though it is better than many which did. It is a smoky-pink with a suggestion of salmon about it; a good, well-formed flower on a good stalk that can be depended upon to bloom every year. [Wills, Jesse, (1943).
