From AIS Bulletin #205 April 1972 Introducing SUMMER SUNSHINE '72. M. 35". $25.00. The copper and gold brilliance of this ruffled fluted and serrated plicata is a delight to see. We have seen it even more beautiful in the autumn. The standards are a brilliant ruffled copper shaded gold. The falls are a light bright yellow, with a white signal patch, rimmed by the same brilliant copper color of the standards. The speckles and stitches in this rim is further enhanced by a fine fluting and ruffling. We have never seen a more brilliant plicata. The beard is an orange-yellow. Blooms 5" x 6". Seedling #83-6A. Gibson's Iris Garden. |
If you prefer those warm tan or amber colors, 83-6A will be most satisfying. Its well-formed ruffled standards are amber; the falls are white blended yellow, edged deep amber. [Jones, Bennett C. (1972). Oregon in ’72, American Iris Society Bulletin 204(January 1972), 19.] |
SUMMER SUNSHINE (Gibson) - Also a rebloomer for some, this honey-brown on yellow plic has nice form with the finishing touch of lace. Taller and much more dependable than the finicky, inconsistent Dykes winner, KILT LILT. [Perry Dyer, “A Tall bearded Collection for the Beginner”, The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 237 (April 1980): 37.] |
Reported Rebloom in: California, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, British Columbia USDA Zone 6,9 [The 2012 Cumulative Checklist of Reblooming Iris, p. 196] |
