From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog, 1965: TRUDY (Tompkins 1964) M. VL. 39 in. (Helen Collingwood x Mystic Melody) x Madame Butterfly. This exciting new break is without a doubt the first truly white and brown amoena. Not just an approach but a fascinating and beautifully finished flower which with a sister seedling or two seems to about stand alone in this class. Its nicely formed flowers are of large size and have well domed standards of snowy white accented by a few touches of gilt at the base of the midribs and a hint of it where edges ruffle. Offsetting the standards are wide velvety falls of brilliant butternut brown which pales to a gilded, slightly lighter butternut brown at their edges. It is a good grower with tall, well-branched stalks and lots of long-lasting flowers. The first of the fascinating array of new colors and patterns we are getting from MadameButterfly.
