From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1965: WINTER GIANT (Austin '65) E-28". An imposing dark, almost blackish, crimson with huge, round, spreading falls, often a full 3-1/2' wide. While rather short, this undoubtedly has the largest flowers and broadest falls of any other Winter Bloomer. Should do remarkably well in mild climates. Fertile. (Gibson Girl X Savage) Sdlg. 153.
