From Schreiner’s catalog, 1963: AFTER DARK (Schreiner 1963) E. 44". $20.00. Like the basso-profundo notes of the bass-viol in "Mozart's Linz Symphony, the velvety deep-violet iris provide magnificent contrast and deep-toned richness in an iris planting. Forty-four inch tall After Dark is not the first tall deep violet but it does represent progress in its four-branched stems, lusty growth, and exuberant bud-count. This is the heaviest blooming deep violet that we know of and with its fine size, ruffling, and velvety nap it is a superb garden iris. After Dark won a Highly Commended award last year from AIS judges. Pictured on page 3, Seedling No. R905-A. |
